Frankincense Resin Hojary Royal Superior - Oman

This type of frankincense called Hojary (Hojari) Superior (Boswellia sacra) Fusoos, is considered to be the best frankincense exported from the Sultanate of Oman. It is most likely the frankincense of Biblical times.

According to the Omani people "Fusoos" is the finest frankincense available in the market, characterized by the smell even before burning as well as very attractive because of the color. This type of frankincense is also called "Large Pill Frankincense" because of its size which is much bigger than the "Fusoos Grade II" (which we call 'First Choice'). Both grades I and II are in the same quality and only separated at harvest by their size. Fusoos Grade I is specially used for religious events and places of worship such as churches, synagogues and mosques, due to the fact of the great amount of smoke profusion, requiring greater amount of charcoal to properly burn.

After extracting the frankincense resin from the tree, workers pick the best pieces and separate the tears considered wonderful in appearance for it's distinctive color, which ranger in color from off white, a beautiful tan to a slight shade of green. Hojary Superior can be used in drinking water to add aromatic fragrance. It is also said to clean the air and kill bacteria that multiply in the throat and stomach. In addition, wealthy Omani people burn this frankincense in their homes to provide a feeling of luxury, especially when receiving guests.

In the past many of the trees in Oman have been over-harvested and not properly rested, forcing harvesters to travel further into the desert for quality resins. Economic growth and the expansion of towns, homes and businesses are also encroaching upon trees. The long-term survival of the international frankincense trade of Oman resins is now in the hands of the Sultanate of Oman. The government has taken control of the entire process and is now releasing stock on a very limited basis. We have been doing our best to obtain resins but can only import small shipments.
