One of the most utilized resins in the incense trade is myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) from Somalia.

This small scrubby tree from the Middle East and northeast Africa produces a precious gum which has been traded for thousands of years. In the Christian Bible, it is a gift to baby Jesus from the visiting Magi.

Myrrh has been used for centuries to inspire prayer and meditation. It has also been used to improve digestion and boost the immune system. Various traditions have used it to treat coughs, gum disease, wounds, candida and the treatment of skin diseases. This deep reddish-brown resin is especially important for oral health. Marinate in water for a few days in an enclosed container for use as a dental rinse. Also encourages circulation, simulates the immune system, and encourages a woman's natural cycle.

    The wifes choice of Myrrh.

My wife really enjoys this myrrh over two others, the other two being myrrh from Yemen and an opoponax variety. I find this particular one to be softer and more mellow compared to the other two. Works very well with frankincense.
