For ancient Egyptians, burning incense was a daily celebration of fragrance and their most treasured incense was Kyphi. On a daily basis, the ritualized burning of incense in ancient Egypt consisted of frankincense in the morning, myrrh during the day, and Kapet (Kyphi from the Greek translation) in the evening. According to Egyptologists, Kyphi played an important role as a sacred fragrance in many ceremonies.
Various Kyphi recipes were made, some using about a dozen ingredients, while others included over fifty. Kyphi recipes are inscribed on the walls of the ancient temples of Edfu and Philae with pictographs of the burning of Kyphi and recipes for making the sacred blend.

Works Perfectly
Up until this point I have been using sand at the bottom of my censer, but this ash keeps the charcoal warm - so it burns longer and more efficiently! I love it, and I will certainly buy more.

Kyphi worth a try
When i first get the kyphi it is soft. I cut it up into pieces because it hardens up. I have been burning it on shoyeido charcoal. It is very exciting to be burning an egyptian recipe incense. The scent lingers and is very pleasant. It isnt your typical sandalwood or aloeswood based incense. This is my second purchase of this incense.

This is a lot different than some other Kyphi I’ve tried from another vendor, personally I’ve tried it on charcoal and indirectly heated by a tea light candle diffuser, did not care for the aroma being indirectly heated but burnt on charcoal It was very pleasant, a complexity of aromas, one of my personal favorites for the charcoal.
