Opoponax gum resin (Commiphora opoponax) from Somalia, also known as "sweet myrrh" and "bisabol myrrh", has an earthy-sweet, balsam-like, lavender-like fragrance when used as incense. King Solomon regarded opoponax as one of the "noblest" of all incense gums. Various cultures used opoponax to guard against negative influences, strengthen the senses, to increase awareness and intuition.

This is the stuff. Very large chunks & not much bark. Nice quality. When I got my order, this is the first thing I burned. Heavanly!
I also appreciated the sample of frankincense.

    Very nice with Frankincense.

I burn lots of Frankincense, with small amounts of Myrrh. Like Frankincense, Myrrh can vary greatly in quality and aroma, and can be too bitter for my taste. This opoponax is absolutely my favorite combination with frank. The quality was great, with large chunks of resin. It has a soft, balsamic, and very subtle floral scent, in my opinion. All subjective, but it is second only to guggal superior from Pakistan. Thanks for the careful packaging and very quick shipping, even as the Christmas holiday approached.

    A nice smooth Myrrh.

I like to use this Myrrh with the Hojary type Frankincense because they pair very nicely together. This Myrrh allows the Frankincense to still permeate it's clean citrus scent through and complements it with a subtly sweet but deep smell.
